The case dates back to 2018, when Teva and Eli Lilly received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for their migraine drugs Ajovy (fremanezumab) and Emgality (galcanezumab-gnlm) within 13 days of one another. Teva subsequently sued Eli Lilly, alleging that its drug Emgality infringed three patents relating to the CGRP pathway for the treatment of headaches.

The EU has recently formally adopted the revised Technology Transfer Block Exemption Regulation (TTBER) and accompanying guidelines, introducing significant changes to competition rules in the field of technology licensing. The new rules will come into force on 1 May 2026, providing, for the first time, systematic provisions for the competition assessment of data licensing agreements and ‘licensing negotiation groups’ (LNGs).

On 10 April 2026, Wilus filed a lawsuit against router manufacturer TP-Link in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, alleging infringement of four Wi-Fi 6 standard-essential patents (Case No.: 2:26-cv-00290-JRG).

The case stems from a lawsuit filed by the plaintiffs in September 2025, alleging that the defendants had “massively” stolen copyright-protected works via Haishuo AI and induced users to generate infringing content featuring well-known characters from the plaintiffs’ portfolios, including Disney, Warner Bros., Universal and Marvel.

This pilot programme applies to PCT applications entering the national phase pursuant to Section 371 of the US Patent Act (35 U.S.C. §371). The USPTO will issue a Notice of Information Requirement to selected applicants, who must, within the specified time limit, choose one of three options: request immediate examination, request a deferral of examination, or explicitly abandon the application; failure to respond by the deadline will result in the application lapsing.

Recently, the Irish non-practising entity (NPE) Key Patent Innovations, together with its affiliates Malikie Innovations (hereinafter referred to as ‘Malikie’) and Valtrus, launched a series of multi-patent infringement lawsuits against seven companies, including Hisense and NTT Global Data, alleging infringement of multiple patents relating to communications and data centres. This marks yet another large-scale litigation campaign by the NPE group since its acquisition of a substantial portfolio of BlackBerry patents in 2023.

The case stems from a patent licensing agreement signed in 2019 between LG Electronics and several entities under IV. LG agreed to pay US$12.8 million in licence fees to ensure that LG and its customers would be protected from infringement litigation when using the relevant technology. The parties agreed that damages for breach of contract would be limited to the licence fees paid by LG. However, IV subsequently sued LG’s customers, General Motors and Toyota Motor Corporation, in a US federal court in Texas, resulting in LG facing claims totalling approximately US$17.2 million. LG consequently filed a lawsuit in the Delaware Superior Court in November 2022, alleging that IV had breached the contract.

The case centres on Dyson’s European patent EP 3 119 235, which relates to an attachment structure for a handheld hair styling device. The core of the invention lies in a specific airflow outlet design that directs airflow along the outer surface of the attachment, thereby achieving an automatic curling effect. Dyson argued that its Airwrap product was developed based on this technology, and that ZuiMi’s “Dazzle Hair Styler” and its curling attachment fell within the scope of protection of claims 1 and 11 of the patent in question, constituting direct or equivalent infringement.

This case originated from a lawsuit filed by Cellspin Soft in October 2023 in the Western District of Texas against TikTok for infringing seven of its patents. TikTok subsequently filed IPR petitions with the PTAB, seeking to have the patents declared invalid. Cellspin filed a motion to terminate the IPR, citing two grounds: firstly, that TikTok is controlled by a foreign government, and pursuant to the US Supreme Court’s Return Mail precedent, foreign governments lack the authority to initiate IPR proceedings; and secondly, that TikTok had failed to disclose all actual interested parties and beneficial owners as required.

This Brazilian litigation is merely one part of InterDigital’s global patent enforcement campaign against Transsion; InterDigital has simultaneously filed lawsuits against Transsion in multiple jurisdictions worldwide.
