ASUS has recently agreed to join the Sisvel Wi-Fi multi-mode patent pool, thereby bringing to an end pending litigation in Germany, the United States and the Unified Patent Court (UPC) involving South Korea’s Wilus, China’s Huawei, the Netherlands’ Philips and other companies.

On 19 May 2026, Sisvel, as the patent pool administrator, announced that ASUS had become the latest licensee of its Wi-Fi multi-mode programme. Meanwhile, UPC records show that the Mannheim Regional Division suspended the Wilus v ASUS case on 18 May following a joint application by both parties. The seventh civil division of the First Regional Court of Munich had originally scheduled a hearing for the Philips v. ASUS case on 21 May, but this hearing was cancelled following the settlement. Previously, on 30 January, the court had issued a Germany-wide injunction against ASUS, finding that it had infringed Wilus’s Wi-Fi standard-essential patents.

This settlement resolves the cross-border disputes between ASUS and at least three patent holders. The Sisvel Wi-Fi multi-mode patent pool, launched in January 2026, aggregates Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 standard-essential patents from 10 technology owners, including Huawei, ZTE, Panasonic, Philips, Wilus, Mitsubishi Electric, Orange and SK Telecom. ASUS has become the seventh publicly known licensee, following HP, Huawei, Panasonic, Philips, Sony Group and ZTE.

It is worth noting that ASUS has recently suffered consecutive setbacks in several patent disputes. On 12 May, it lost its case against Nokia at the UK Court of Appeal; in the case against Ericsson at the UPC’s Lisbon Regional Division, it was also ordered to pay damages covering nearly six years.

Case Background

The global Wi-Fi patent litigation between ASUS, South Korea’s Wilus, Huawei and Philips began in 2025, involving courts in Germany, the US and the UPC. Key milestones are as follows:

September 2024: Wilus filed a lawsuit against ASUS subsidiary Askey in the Eastern District of Texas, USA.

16 April 2025: Wilus filed a lawsuit against ASUS at the Munich Regional Court in Germany.

23 May 2025: Wilus filed a lawsuit against ASUS and several of its European affiliates at the Mannheim Division of the UPC.

During 2025: Huawei and Philips separately filed lawsuits against ASUS at the Munich Regional Court.

8 January 2026: The Seventh Civil Division of the Munich Regional Court ruled that ASUS had infringed the patents.

30 January 2026: The Munich Regional Court formally issues a German injunction against ASUS and a written judgment confirming that the Sisvel patent pool royalty rates comply with FRAND.

February 2026: Wilus seeks a permanent injunction in the United States.

30 April 2026: A US court cancels the pre-trial hearing on the injunction, suggesting the motion is unlikely to be granted.

19 May 2026: ASUS joins the Sisvel Wi-Fi multi-mode patent pool and reaches a global settlement with all parties.
