Recently, Philips filed a lawsuit with the Munich Regional Division of the Unified Patent Court (UPC), alleging that Shenzhen Baseus Technology Co., Ltd. and its affiliated companies have infringed on its EP2867997 patent. Baseus Technology has become the third Chinese charging accessories company that Philips has sued at the UPC based on this patent.

It is reported that Baseus Technology was founded in 2019 and owns two major brands, Baseus and Talenpal. Its core business covers products such as charging devices, audio equipment, and smart in-vehicle systems.

The patent in question, titled “Wireless Inductive Power Transfer,” is one of the core patents of the Qi wireless charging standard. It has been included by Philips in its publicly disclosed “Philips Qi Essential Patents” licensing program and is also a member patent of the Qi wireless charging patent pool managed by Via LA, a U.S.-based patent pool management organization.

It is worth noting that Philips has previously filed SEP infringement lawsuits against Belkin and Anker Innovation regarding this patent and won the case against Belkin. On September 13, 2024, the Munich Regional Division of the UPC found Belkin liable for infringement and issued permanent injunctions in multiple countries, including Germany, Belgium, France, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. The case between Philips and Anker Innovation has not yet been concluded, with oral arguments expected to take place in October of this year.

On June 14, 2023, Philips filed an infringement lawsuit against Belkin at the Munich Regional Division of the UPC regarding Patent EP2867997;

On September 13, 2024, the Munich Regional Division of the UPC issued a judgment finding Belkin liable for infringement, confirming the validity of EP2867997, and issuing a permanent injunction against Belkin covering multiple UPC member states, including Belgium, France, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden;

On October 29, 2024, the UPC Board of Appeal rendered a decision on Belkin’s appeal;

On June 16, 2025, Philips filed an infringement action against Anker Innovation at the UPC Munich Regional Division regarding Patent EP2867997;

On September 25, 2025, Anker Innovation Germany filed a separate lawsuit against Belkin and Philips at the UPC;

On July 28, 2026, Philips filed an infringement lawsuit against Bes Technology regarding Patent EP2867997 at the UPC’s Munich Regional Division.
