Recently, China Telecom and Lenovo Group officially joined the Avanci EV Charger patent pool as licensees. At the same time, the patent pool project also signed a licensing agreement with an unnamed Japanese manufacturer. Previously, on July 1, Nokia had joined the pool as a new licensee.

On July 8, 2026, Marianne Frydenlund, Vice President of Avanci IoT, announced the news on social media. Mika Vierti? Head of IoT Licensing at Nokia, stated in a project announcement last week that the rapid expansion of connected electric vehicle charging infrastructure has made efficient access to cellular technology increasingly important. The addition of these three new entities reflects the project’s positive momentum in expanding its licensor base.

Currently, another patent pool operator, Via Licensing Alliance, also operates an EV charging program; its publicly disclosed list of eight licensors includes companies such as Dolby, Siemens, Bosch, and LG.

In recent years, other patent pool projects under Avanci have achieved significant growth in the Asian market, particularly in China. Its 4G Vehicle and 5G Vehicle patent pools now have a combined total of 11 Chinese licensees, including Geely (signed in May 2026) and PACCAR (signed in April 2026). Additionally, Sharp joined Avanci’s Wi-Fi 6 project as a licensor in April of this year.
