Recently, Dolby obtained a preliminary injunction from the Fifth Commercial Court of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, ordering Skyworth and its related Brazilian entities to cease selling products in Brazil that incorporate the AV1 patent technology at issue; violators will face daily fines.

On 29 May 2026, Judge Ferreira issued a ruling granting Dolby’s application for a preliminary injunction. The order prohibits the defendants from implementing the patented technology claimed by Dolby in Skyworth products sold in Brazil, and from launching new products containing such technology. Violators will be fined 10,000 Brazilian reais (approximately 40,000 RMB) per day, with a cumulative cap of 600,000 Brazilian reais (approximately 800,000 RMB).

In its ruling, the court noted that the technical report submitted by Dolby at the time of filing had provided preliminary evidence of the likelihood of success, and that the defendant’s continued use of the relevant technology would cause irreparable harm to Dolby’s patent rights. Consequently, the court deemed it necessary to adopt interim measures prior to a full hearing. In addition to the injunction, the court will expedite the technical review of the case.

This ruling stems from the infringement lawsuit filed by Dolby earlier this year, in conjunction with IP Bridge, against Skyworth and related Brazilian entities regarding AV1 video codec patents. In addition to the action against Skyworth, Dolby has also filed similar lawsuits against Snap in Brazil and the United States.
