Dolby Laboratories, a licensor under the Via Licensing Alliance (hereinafter referred to as “Via”), and Japan's IP Bridge recently filed patent infringement lawsuits against four companies in Brazil. The defendants include Chinese consumer electronics firm Skyworth Group and three Brazilian manufacturers. Analysts indicate the case likely involves the implementation of AVC/H.264 video coding standard patents.

On January 26 and January 29, 2026, Dolby Laboratories and IP Bridge successively filed lawsuits in Rio de Janeiro State Court against Skyworth Group Co., Ltd., MK Eletrodomésticos Mondial S.A., Philco Eletrônicos S.A., and SAT Bras Indústria Eletrônica da Amazônia Ltda. The two cases have been assigned to the Second Commercial Court and Third Commercial Court of the state, respectively.

This litigation marks not the first time Skyworth has engaged with VIA. Public records indicate Skyworth has previously obtained at least one patent license from VIA.

The content of the complaint remains undisclosed at this time.
