This marks the latest setback for KPN in its series of patent litigation cases against OPPO. Of the five lawsuits it has filed in Germany and at the Unified Patent Court (UPC), patents in three have already been declared invalid or found not to infringe; one is still pending, and only one—filed in early 2026—is a recent addition.

Recently, the global patent dispute between ASUS and Lenovo concerning standard-essential patents (SEPs) has entered its final stages. According to the latest court notice issued by the Unified Patent Court (UPC), both parties have jointly applied to stay the patent infringement and invalidity proceedings and are currently proceeding with the signing of a patent licence agreement.

A chart in the statement of claim shows that WebText, the dataset used by OpenAI to train GPT-2, contains millions of basic text units, of which approximately 891,256 originate from websites operated by AIM Media Indiana Operating, and 550,205 from websites owned by CherryRoad Media Inc. The publishers also allege that ChatGPT generates near-verbatim copies when responding to user prompts, directly replicating their works.

This agreement was reached to resolve a series of patent infringement lawsuits relating to video coding technology that Nokia had brought against Acer, Asus and Hisense from April 2025 onwards. Previously, on 19 June, Nokia had signed a similar agreement with Acer, the terms of which were also to be determined by arbitration; Hisense, meanwhile, had reached a settlement earlier this year in January. SIM IP (Sauvegarder Investment Management) recently announced that it had acquired 126 patent assets from Alibaba, relating to video coding and data centre technologies and covering key areas such as AV1, AV2 and VCM (machine video coding). Although Alibaba is a member of the LOT Network (Licence-on-Transfer Network), the transaction was successfully completed.

On 12 June 2026, the Mannheim Regional Division of the Unified Patent Court (UPC) delivered its first-instance judgment in the DJI patent infringement case, dismissing all infringement claims brought by the claimant, Irdeto B.V., whilst also dismissing DJI’s counterclaim seeking to invalidate the patent. The court found the patent in question to be valid but ruled that DJI’s products did not infringe it; both parties were ordered to bear their own legal costs.

On 11 June 2026, InterDigital announced that it had reached an agreement with Amazon regarding video patent licensing, stipulating that the final licensing terms would be determined through binding arbitration; the very next day, Amazon publicly responded that the press release was inaccurate, stating that the two parties had not signed any agreement and that the relevant litigation remained unresolved. The two companies are at odds over whether an agreement has been reached and the nature of such an agreement.
