Sony Interactive Entertainment has filed a lawsuit against Tencent in a federal court in California, accusing Tencent of infringing on its copyrights and trademarks and copying its popular Horizon series of adventure video games.

In the lawsuit filed last Friday, Sony claims that Tencent's upcoming game “Light of Motiram” is a “slavish clone” of its game, copying multiple unique “Horizon” elements and potentially causing consumer confusion. A spokesperson for Tencent did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In its complaint, Sony stated that Tencent had proposed collaborating on a new “Horizon” game last year, but Sony rejected the offer. Tencent subsequently announced “Light of Motiram,” which Sony claims is identical to “Horizon” in gameplay, story themes, and artistic elements, with numerous other similarities.

Sony is seeking damages and an injunction to prevent Tencent from infringing on its intellectual property rights.

The case number is: Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC v. Tencent Holdings Ltd, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, Case No. 3:25-cv-06275.
