Recently, Transsion has faced multiple patent infringement lawsuits concerning HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) technology in Brazil and at the European Unified Patent Court (UPC).

NEC Lawsuit (Brazil): Last month, Japan's NEC Corporation filed a lawsuit at the 5th Civil Business Court of Rio de Janeiro, alleging that Transsion infringed its patent (BR 122020015658-9) related to "video encoding devices and video decoding methods." On June 27, 2025, the judge ordered court-appointed experts to conduct a preliminary assessment on the merits of the case "in the shortest possible time." Transsion has acknowledged this procedural decision.

JVCKenwood Lawsuit (Brazil): Last month, Japan's JVCKenwood Corporation filed a lawsuit at the 1st Civil Business Court of Rio de Janeiro, alleging that Transsion infringed its patent (BR 112014023933-9) related to "image decoding devices, image decoding methods, and receiving devices." This case has similarly been referred for an expert report.

Concurrently, the latest case disclosures from the UPC reveal two separate patent infringement actions against Transsion at the court.

NEC Lawsuit (UPC): Last month, NEC filed a lawsuit at the UPC's Mannheim Local Division, accusing Transsion of infringing two video codec patents (EP3057321, EP2645714) covering "video decoding devices, video decoding methods, and programs." The defendants include Transsion Holdings, its German and Indian subsidiaries, and distributors.

Sun Patent Trust (SPT) Lawsuit (UPC): Last month, US-based patent licensing entity Sun Patent Trust (SPT) filed a lawsuit at the UPC's Mannheim Local Division, accusing Transsion of infringing a video codec technology patent (EP2903267) related to "image encoding methods, image decoding methods, image encoding equipment, image decoding equipment, and image encoding/decoding equipment." The defendants include Shenzhen Transsion Holdings Co., Ltd., TECNO Mobile Limited, INFINIX Mobile Limited, and local distributors.
